Hey, Mr. Bass Man!

Mr. Bass Man, you've got that certain somethin'
Mr. Bass Man, you set that music thumpin'
(ENTWISTLE, John. "Mr. Bass Man." Rigor Mortis Sets In. Track Records, 1973)

I must admit, the hardest part of any of these entries is the song quote at the top.  Seriously, it's changed 3 times before I even started typing this!

Anyway, have I told you, my Internet friends, about the universal law that I discovered?  I call it "Mark's 3rd Law".  Clever name!  It relates to listening to music at work.  Here it is:

The odds of being interrupted while listening to music at work are directly proportionate to how much you enjoy the song.

And what would a law be without a corollary!

The odds are increased if you deliberately queued up the song.

Also, we need an observation...

The odds are doubled each time you restart the song.

But I'm not at work now!  Surprise, surprise!  BUCK-TICK!

I've always like the bass line in this song.

I read on some site that HIGUCHI Yutaka (BT's bassist) listed albums by Japan (the band) and Mick KARN (the bassist for Japan who went solo after the band split...  Kinda...) as influences.  (Note: I find it weird when I see an artist's list of influential / favorite albums and think "Have they raided my record collection?)

Sadly, while working on this, I found out that Mick KARN passed away last January.  This is the first song I ever heard by Japan.  I remember being blown away by the distinctive fretless bass work in the intro.

I think the bass gets largely ignored and neglected.  So wonderful when it gets elevated to a lead instrument.  So here's more Japan!

That's all for now.  Hope you enjoyed the music.

Maybe I should do a top 10 of bassists or something...
