...but 'til then we'll have to muddle through somehow...

It's Christmas at ground zero
The button has been pressed
The radio just let us know
That this is not a test
("Weird Al" Yankovic. "Christmas at Ground Zero". Polka Party! Rock 'n' Roll, 1986)

So, Happy Christmas and Merry New Year!

Banzai Girl

I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm alright
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life
Go ahead with your own life, leave me alone
(Billy Joel. "My Life". 52nd Street. Columbia Records, 1978)

This evening I heard an old Billy Joel song on the radio. I was a big Billy Joel fan back in the mid 80's. Hearing the song reminded me of a video project I wanted to do.

Musings

Call me desdinova
Eternal light
(Blue Öyster Cult. "Astronomy." Secret Treaties. CBS Records, 1974)

I haven't posted anything in a while, so here's some music vids.

Something that I find interesting is speculative history.  Asking what if one thing changed, how would that affect the world.  Watch, listen and think for yourself.

Coffee Achiever

Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see your ship go sailing
When you feel your heart is breaking
Hold tight to your dream.
(Electric Light Orchestra. "Hold On Tight." Time. Columbia Records, 1981)

I've been cleaning up the house.

Adiaŭ, amatino amiko

Sayonara yasashikatta egao
(BUCK-TICK. "Jupiter." Kurutta Taiyou. Victor, 1991)

I'm numb. This is not to say that I do not feel anything. On the contrary; I feel too much. Emotions combine and churn. Some conflict while some augment others. My psyche has shut down from the overload. I once heard that the ture definition of Hell is an absolute lack of the presence of God. If I were a man of any amount of faith, I would describe myself as being in Hell.

Bump

Hello, yeah, it's been a while.
Not much, how 'bout you?
I'm not sure why I called,
I guess I really just wanted to talk to you.
And I was thinking maybe later on,
We could get together for a while.
It's been such a long time,
And I really do miss your smile.
(England Dan & John Ford Coley. "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight." Nights Are Forever, 1976)

Have I used that one before?  I should keep track.

In The Cool of The Morning (Notes)

I, don't wanna know your name
'Cause you don't look the same
The way you did before
(The Sweet. “Fox On The Run.” Capitol Records, 1974)

I wish it didn't take 3 days to write 1,100+ words. :P

In The Cool of The Morning (Part 2)

Sheng put the dishes on the drain board and wiped his hands. “All done.”

In The Cool of The Morning (Part 1)

It was early summer and the morning air was cool. Outside small birds could be heard chirping through the open window.

A Train to Catrch

A long time ago there was a thing called a telephone. The device had a handset (a handle shaped object that was held up against the head with a speaker going to an ear and a microphone that went to the mouth), and a receiver (a boxy shaped device with a rotary dial at first, but was latter replaced with buttons). The handset would sit on the receiver when the phone was not in use. It would be picked up to place a call or receive one. It would then be set back into the cradle to end the call. Simon remembered old videos where people would get upset with the person they were talking to and slam the handset down on the receiver.

White Walls and BeigeCarpet.

Funny how a life can be summed up in five words: White walls and beige carpet.

Killing time

Watch every shape that escapes
Scared to make that final mistake
Speak to hear the sound of your voice
Don't fear the stranger within
(Ultravox. "Stranger Within." Rage in Eden. Chrysalis Records, 1981)

Got bored today so I went through all the entries on this site and modified all my epigraphs to confirm with MLA formatting.  I do weird stuff when I'm bored.

Blogilo test.

Is their anyone out there earth calling
Is their anyone out there at all
Is their anyone out there earth calling
Trying to get through
(THORPE, Billy. "Earth Calling." Children of the Sun. Polydor Records, 1979)
This is a test of Blogilo, a Blog editor for KDE.
It failed. Maybe I need to look a bit more into how it works...

The Fate of Ætherwave 2X2L

Good morning day and how do you do
I wonder what will you do for me?
I should be on my way, I should be earning pay,
I should be all the things that I'm not
(The Style Council. "Homebreakers." Our Favourite Shop. Polydor Records, 1985)

Given the cost to run a legitimate internet radio station and my recent loss of employment, I am sad to announce that Ætherwave 2X2L is here by canceled until such a time I can afford it.

Got to find a reason a reason things went wrong
Got to find a reason why my money's all gone
(Sublime. "What I Got." Sublime. MCA, 1996)

What is it about today?

09 April 2011

Hey, Mr. Bass Man!

Mr. Bass Man, you've got that certain somethin'
Mr. Bass Man, you set that music thumpin'
(ENTWISTLE, John. "Mr. Bass Man." Rigor Mortis Sets In. Track Records, 1973)

I must admit, the hardest part of any of these entries is the song quote at the top.  Seriously, it's changed 3 times before I even started typing this!

31 March 2011

I can't finish what I start...

Burning bridges as you pass,
You find yourself alone at lone at last
All your enemies are conquered
Is your life the one you wanted?
(Naked Eyes. "Burning Bridges." Burning Bridges.  EMI Records, 1983)

Haven't posted in a couple of days, so....

28 March 2011

A Little Synchronicity fot the Jung at Heart.

If heaven watches over me
Sowing seeds back in the soil
With eyes that see, hands that feel
Why am I the last to know?
(SYLVIAN, David. "Pulling Punches." Brilliant Trees. Virgin, 1984)

As I've mentioned before, some of the releases I've been waiting for have been delayed due to circumstances in Japan.  One I've been waiting on mostly because it is tying up an order... Since December.  Back when I was placing my order, I saw that the group Capsule had an album coming out on 9 March 2011.  My room mate likes them and asked that I pre-order it for him.  At the time, it was listed as UNNAMED [CD+DVD].  Then, the release date got pushed to 23 March.  No big deal.

26 March 2011

I can admit I'm a nerd. Can you?

I am the fanatic.
Can I have your autograph?
Maybe a poster or photograph?
(Felony. "The Fanatic." The Fanatic. Rock 'n' Roll, 1983)

So, this is something I ran across a while back and, because I used BlogThis for the setup I promptly forgot it!

hang in there

Imai says: Hang in there!
Hello, yeah, it's been a while.
Not much, how 'bout you?
(England Dan and John Ford Coley. "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight." Nights Are Forever. Big Tree, 1976)

Been a while since I've written anything.  Well, anything I would post.  I doubt you'd be interested in my photo kiosk trouble shooting guide.  Of course, I'd probably be fired for breach of nondisclosure if I did...

11 March 2011

The pros and cons of skiving off...

Every day I get in the queue
To get on the bus that takes me to you
I'm so nervous, I just sit and smile
Your house is only another mile
(The Who. "Magic Bus." Single. Track Records, 1968)

So, skiving off work early wasn't all that great of an idea. As it turns out, I left work about two and a half hours early, and beat my room mates home by about half an hour.

26 February 2011

I've been uptight and made a mess, but I'll clean it up myself, I guess

Maybe somewhere down the road a way
You'll think of me and wonder where I am these days
Maybe somewhere down the road when somebody plays
Purple haze
(The Traveling Wilburys. "End of the Line." Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1. Wilbury Records, 1988)

Here's a Saturday special! Tell me you didn't see this coming...

One of the Greates Voices Ever!

Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby
Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, dooby-do-wah-do-wah-do-wah
(ORBISON, Roy. "Ooby Dooby." single. Sun Records, 1956)

Here's today's vid.  It's not actually a video, per se, as it's just a picture of the album cover with this fantastic song playing.

24 February 2011

On Cloud 9

There's no tears to be shed
I'm gonna love you instead
I want you around, cheer down.
(HARRISON, George. "Cheer Down." Lethal Weapon 2 Soundtrack. Warner Bros., 1989)

If you haven't guessed by now, I'm not going to say a lot.

23 February 2011

Ich Habe Nichts

The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
(DILLON, Bob. "Blowin’ In The Wind." The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. Columbia Records, 1963)

Yeah, ok, going to drop the whole German thing...

22 February 2011

Grüß

Accroches-toi à ton rêve
Accroches-toi à ton rêve
Quand tu vois ton bateau partir
Quand tu sens ton coeur se briser
Accroches-toi à ton rêve.
(Electric Light Orchestra. "Hold On Tight." Time. Columbia Records, 1981)

Ok, today's vid is "Don't Bring Me Down" by Electric Light Orchestra.  Enjoy!

21 February 2011

Talk about an Ohrwurm

I've given up, stop. I've given up, stop.
I've given up, stop. You tangle my emotions
I've given up, honey please admit it's over
(Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. "Don't Come Around Here No More." Southern Accents. MCA, 1985)

Ever get a song stuck in your head?

13 February 2011

So far, so good.

HAIL PSYCHO BITCH
YOU'RE MY FUCKIN' VALENTINE
(BUCK-TICK. "My Fuckin’ Valetine." Sexy Stream Liner. Mercury, 1997)

Well, so far, so good.  I have my Shouctast daemon running on my server and the firewall configured.  As I type this,I have my source running on one system and streaming from another.  Seems to be working fine.  Now I just need to set it up so the daemon launches at system start.

08 February 2011

Another update.

When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
(The Police. "When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around." Zenyattà Mondatta. A&M, 1980)

Hokay, power supply changed in file server.  The fans in this thing are almost silent!  So silent, in fact, I can hear the other cooling fans in it start to die...

03 February 2011

I Get to be Clever!

Einstein can't be classed as witless.
He claimed atoms were the littlest.
When you did a bit of splitting-em-ness
Frighten everybody shitless
(Ian Dury & The Blockheads. "There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards." B Side "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick." Stiff Records, 1978)

Since they've killed Twitter at work, I'm going to put this here.  Of course, since it's on here, I'll actually post more than just the quip...

Ætherwave Broadcast Station 2X2L Update

Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
(Mike & The Mechanics. "Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)." Mike + The Mechanics. Atlantic, 1985)

For the most part, last night's test was a success.  The server was up for about 1.75 hours and I was able to come up with a decent play list.

27 January 2011

Ætherwave Broadcast Test

You're on my mind
like a Song on the Radio
(Al Stewart. "Song On The Radio." Time Passages. RCA, 1978)

First things first.  Sorry about not keeping this thing as up to date as I had intended or, in deed, promised (the promise was implicit,  so I don't actually feel a loss of honor...).  I doubt very much this is going to change any time soon.  Mostly because I have no idea what to do with it.  In fact, up until about a week ago, I couldn't remember why I started this in the fist place.

21 January 2011

A Moment of Perfect Beauty

Yurusareru nara kimi no te ni dakareteitai
(BUCK-TICK "Oukoku Kingdom Come ~moon rise~." Kyokutou I Love You. BMG/Funhouse, 2002)

Freakin' miserable morning.

Showed up at work at "Why are you early" o'clock, started working on a POS (Either Point Of Sale or Piece Of Shit.  Take your pick.) that defied me at every turn, and discovered I'd forgotten my MP3 player.

Crap.

14 January 2011

The Crash of the HMS Ophelia

But the crew stayed at its post
And the Captain at his wheel!
We all endured the wrath of fate
But thought our fate was sealed
(Abney Park. "The Wrath of Fate." The End of Days.
Abney Park, 2010)

Seems the independent Seattle based steampunk band Abney Park is in a spot of bother; the server for their recording studio has crashed (I think it blew its boiler...).

13 January 2011

Quick note

Do you, you feel like I do?
(FRAMPTON, Peter. "Do You Feel Like We Do." Frampton's Camel. A&M Records, 1973)

If you mean tired, cranky and want to go home, then, yes.  Yes, I do.

Long week and just getting longer.
